Pekanbaru, the capital of Riau Province, is one
of the future towns in Sumatera. It sits in the busiest business lane
in South-East Asia. Geographically
it is only one-hour flight from Singapore, ninety-minute flight from
Kuala Lumpur and 30-minute flight from Medan. It is a promising
trading hub in the future.
Pekanbaru is also the center of many
foreign-invested companies in Riau such as PT Caltex Pacific
Indonesia, the biggest oil company in Indonesia, or PT Indah Kuat Pulp
and Paper, pulp and paper factory.
Pekanbaru is growing faster as the Riau is declared as
SIJORI (Singapore, Johor and Riau) Region. It is, indeed, a business
city with people from many parts of Sumatra and Java and some ASEAN
countries come to work, to do business.
