North Sulawesi is reachable by air travel. DR. Sam Ratulangi Airport, located 13 km. from Manado serves not only as the basis to link Manado with Jakarta and other cities but also the basic of transit to and from Palu - Balikpapan - Banjarmasin - Ternate - Ambon - sorong - Biak - and Jayapura.

A renovated program aiming at promoting a limited increase in the operating capacity of the demand of goreign transportation, has been carried out to make this airport capable of handling heavy aircrafts such as DC 10.

Other airports in this provice handle mainly domestic traffic are Jalaludin Airport in Gorontalo, Naha Airport in Tahuna and, Melanguane Airport in Talaud. Jalaludin Airport in Gorontalo is available for landing aircrafts such as F 27, but the other two are only for light aircrafts.

Air travel in North Sulawesi is served by national airline companies such as Garuda Indonesia, Merpati Nusantara Airlines, Bouraq Indonesia Airlines, Sempati Air and Mandala Airlines. Bouraq Airlines serves direct flight from Manado to Davao City (in the Philippines) twice a week since 1992. Silk Air serves direct flight from Singapore twice a week since 1994.

North Sulawesi can be also accessed by sea. The port of Bitung has a large and modern wharf 1,127 m long, located on the northen coast is undoubtedly the most important port, serving shipping lines in North Sulawesi as well as the eastern part of Indonesia.

This natural port, shielded by Lembeh Island, is one of the officially designated ports of entry and departure of tourists visiting Indonesia. Other ports in North Sulawesi are Manado, Melanguane, Lirung, Siau, Gorontalo, and Kwandang.
Shipping line in this provice are served by P.T Pelni, a state owned shipping company, and private companies such as PT Holpers Line.

Interity road travelling in North sulawesi is quite fast particulary that which link Manado, the capital city of the province, and other cities in Minahasa, Bitung, Bolaang Mongondow, and Gorontalo, from terminal in Karombasan, Paal 2 and alalayang.

Road travelling in this province is served by transportation companies which operate buses and minibuses. They even serve the long distance lines from Manado to Gorontalo, Palu, Poso (in central Sulawesi province) and Ujung Pandang (South Sulawesi province).
