The Resort
Amandari is located in central Bali, rooting itself in the heart of the island’s cultural spirit. Amandari has designed a peaceful resort encapsulating the patina of timeless traditions with honesty and a respectful integrity.

Ten minutes from Bali’s creative community of Ubud, the resort is perfectly positioned to gain in-depth understanding of its rich surroundings in a style inherently Balinese.

The spacious open-air lobby with towering posts of coconut wood on a cool honey-toned floor sectioned in smooth Javanese marble and volcanic stone, is designed after a wantilan, or village meeting place. Local teak and coconut wood are used throughout the 30 free-standing suites and the Amandari Villa.

True to local village design, the resort has river-stone walkways between authentically charming thatched-roofed suites, each one fronted with a Balinese-style gateway.

Suites & Villas
Amandari is designed in the same style as the charming local village within which it is located. While the 21st century has been so well accommodated with subtle necessity and in sympathetic style, Amandari's charm and luxury is bedded in its authentic architectural depiction of the neighbouring indigenous lifestyle. The palette of honey, cream and white on simple fine lines, with handwoven batiks, is soothing, relaxing and appealing. Nothing interferes with the lush, tropical vegetation throughout the resort; the dense equatorial greens of the surrounding plants, palms and rice terraces are reflected in the resorts many glistening pools. Balinese-style stone gateways front Amandari's 30 walled, thatched-roof suites, each with a private garden courtyard. Wireless broadband connections are available in all suites and public areas.

All suites offer a garden courtyard, living area and wall-sized sliding glass doors that open on three sides to the lush surroundings. The bathroom features twin vanities and dressing areas, a separate shower and toilet and an outdoor sunken marble bath behind a glass door. Walled but entirely open to the sky, the sunken tub is framed by large stone planters of ferns and heliconia. Suites come either as a single-storey or two-level duplex. The duplexes have a queen-size, four-poster bed on a mezzanine level while the single-storey suites offer a king-size bed.

village suites
Village Suites feature either a large combined bedroom and living room or a ground floor living room with a separate queen-sized bedroom on a mezzanine level.

valley suites
These are identical to Village Suites but offer views of the Ayung Valley or surrounding paddy fields.

pool suites
These are Valley Suites that feature their own private pool with views overlooking the Ayung Valley or paddy fields.

asmara and ayung suite
Both of these are duplexed suites with large private swimming pools and sweeping views of the adjacent rice terraces and valley.

amandari suite
This suite offers one or two detached bedrooms along with a separate living room pavilion. There is also a private swimming pool and an outdoor bale of teak and bamboo with outstanding views of the Ayung Gorge.

amandari villa
Overlooking the verdant Ayung River gorge, the villa includes five pavilions – three detached, terrace-style bedrooms, a separate living room walled entirely with windows, and a fully fitted kitchen. A garden and landscaped deck embrace the two-tiered swimming pool. The villa’s thatched-roof dining bale is reached by crossing stones set like a pathway over a reed reflection pool. With marble flooring and coconut-wood posts, the bale comes with a round table and rattan chairs for six to enjoy alfresco dining. Located just back of the dining bale, the villa’s kitchen is capable of providing meals at all times. Each morning, guests discuss the day’s dining plans with villa staff. Indonesian and Western cuisines are available. An Amandari chef will prepare all the meals. The villa is less than a minute’s drive from Amandari and a vehicle is on call.

arts of ubud
Amandari guides are local and so they have intimate knowledge of the island and will be happy to show guests Bali's most popular attractions or introduce them to locations not on the main tourist trail. Our guides can also arrange outings to nearby villages for tailor-made guided shopping trips or to Balinese dances which are performed nightly in Ubud and the surrounding areas.

Ubud offers a wealth of arts and crafts with a myriad of small shops, art galleries, museums, painters’ studios and the colourful Pasar Seni market which trades in a wide range of clothing, sarongs and gift items. The nearby villages of Tegallang and Jati are noted for their woodcarvings and the village of Celuk is home to numerous jewellers, some of whom will custom-make pieces. South of Tabanan, in Pejaten, one can find traditional pottery.

Amandari's Spa is located at the end of a winding river stone path and offers two open-air bales, a beauty room, sauna and marble steam room. Surrounded by a lotus pond, it seems to float peacefully above the water.

A selection of body and beauty treatments are available here, in the privacy of guest suites or in the bale overlooking the Ayung Valley. Body treatments include massage and scrubs using traditional, natural Balinese ingredients chosen for their soothing, healing properties.

Treat yourself to a Balinese volcanic clay body mask. A purifying steam prepares your skin for the mask and a wrap of mineral rich local clay while a lemon and lime oil massage rounds off this two hour detoxifying treatment. To pamper your body, try 'Mandis' (baths) which includes a choice of exfoliation of tumeric, sandalwood scrub or black rice and cinnamon scrub followed by herbal or milk bath, and ends with a relaxing Amandari Massage or a choice of volcanic clay mask or soothing aloe vera wrap.
Facials, manicures, pedicures and reflexology are also available.
In addition to trained spa therapists, Amandari has a blind reflexologist with a gifted intuitive awareness and touch, as well as a respected local healer.

adventure
There is no more exhilarating or scenic way to appreciate the beauty of Bali than by following a trail through the countryside on foot or by bicycle. Amandari offers several invigorating treks including a walk along the Ayung Valley past sacred shrines, rice terraces, mango, coffee and clove trees finishing at Taman Burung Bird Park for breakfast. Cycle rides venture into the mountainous backcountry areas to parts of Bali that are less crowded, more peaceful and all the more rewarding for it. If tranquility is not what you are searching for then white water rafting down the Ayung River will certainly satisfy your thirst for adventure.

There are many day trips available including Lake Batur, Mount Agung and Ceking, famed for its steeply stacked rice terraces. Guides can also arrange outings to nearby villages for tailor-made guided shopping trips or to Balinese dances which are performed nightly in Ubud and the surrounding areas.

Bali's three golf courses are as diverse as the island itself. Each course is located between ¾ hour to 1¼ hours from Amandari.

The Bali Golf and Country Club in Nusa Dua was recently recognised as one of Asia's top five courses. Designed by Robin Nelson and Rodney Wright, the championship, 18-hole course enjoys a scenic, seaside setting. Club facilities include a driving range, putting and chipping greens, pro shop, restaurant, bar and swimming pool.

The Nirwana Bali Golf Club is located in the Tabanan Regency, on the island's west coast. Former British Open champion Greg Norman designed this championship course. Offering one of Asia's most visually arresting settings, the Nirwana Bali Golf Club plays through rice paddies, tropical forest, gardens and creeks.

The Bali Handara Kosaido Country Club. Acclaimed as one of the world's most beautiful golf courses. Designed by Peter Thomson and Graham Wolveridge, the course is set in an extinct volcano. The championship course's 18 holes lie amid lush green mountain slopes and rainforest.
