Karaoke City
But if karaoke bars have done Denpasar a service of spicing up its night life, this seems to have done little to earn them popularity among the locals. Certainly this is not because the Denpasar-ese are disinterested in frequenting bars, considering the eagerness with which those with sufficiently fat wallets await their ritual weekend outing to Kuta’s Hard Rock CafŽ.

Bloodshed in Paradise
Under the rule of Gusti Gde Ngurah Denpasar, Badung was subjected to the Dutch invasion in 1906. The king refused to strike a compromise with the colonisers, rejecting their demands and opting to go to war rather than surrender to the Dutch. Only just two years on the throne, the patriotic king engaged his army in an anti-colonial war, now known as the Puputan Badung War. Dressed all in white and armed only with keris (swords with curved blades), and the king and his soldiers faced the Dutch army’s firearms, and were massacred in no time. Thus ended the kingdom of Badung.

Welcome to Denpasar
As well as getting more shopping malls, Denpasar is also getting bigger. Over the past ten years, the city has witnessed something of a boom in the construction of up-market residential estates.

Art Center
This artistic place is functioned to stage any art shows, no matter it is traditional or modern as well. There are three main stages here: the Ksirarnawa at the second floor of the building; Arda Chandra, the open- air stage; and the Wantilan stage.

Bajra Sandhi
There is a monument, called Monument Perjuangan Rakyat Bali (The monument of Bali people’s struggle) stands on the south part of the square. The monument was built to commemorate the heroic of the Balinese heroes’ spirit in casting away the colonialists. The inside part of the monument, which will be functioned as a gallery and a museum, is still under construction

Puputan Badung
This is the Denpasar town square. The name of the square is derived from the two words, Puputan, means the last blood drop battle, while Badung is a name of a regency in Bali (formerly Denpasar is a part of Badung regency).

Badung Market
Please experience the real atmosphere of bargaining in the style of Balinese traditional market. Just go down to the Badung Market at Gajah Mada street. You’ll find great fresh range of vegetables, fruits, meat and some other kitchen’s needs.

Bali Museum
This is the museum that will tell you lot of things about the Balinese society from times to times.

Sanur
Situated on the eastern side of Denpasar, Sanur has been famous since the Badung War in the early 1900’s when the King and his entourage took part in the Puputan, or Fight to the Death. The introduction of tourism to the area began with the arrival of the Belgian artist A.J. Le Mayeur and his wife Ni Polok, who made their home there in 1937
