South Kalimantan is easily reached by air and sea. There are regular flights connecting Banjarmasin with other main cities in Indonesia.
You can reach Banjarmasin from Jakarta, Semarang, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Denpasar, Bali via Surabaya, Palangka Raya, Pontianak via Balikpapan or Jakarta, or Pangkalan Bun/Ketapang, and Ujung Pandang via Surabaya or Balikpapan, and to Menado via Balikpapan. One of the four airports in South Kalimantan can be landed by wide-bodies Boeings.
Two ocean-ports: Tri Sakti on the barito river and Batulicin a the Strait of Macassar are connected to main seaports in Indonesia such as Surabaya, Semarang, Jakarta, Ujung Pandang, and Singaraja-Bali, by well-facilitated 5,000 to 6,000 dwt passenger-ships with the capacity of 400 to 900 passengers.
Those modern Pelni-ships are a.o. Kelimutu, Tatamaliau, Sirimau, Krakatau, Lawit, Lisa and Ayu.
Long boats of forty passengers, river buses and t he "klotok" are mostly used since South Kalimantan is still developing networks of roads.
Inland waterways reach the farthest spots along the giant Barito river and its tributaries and penetrate deep into the province of Central Kalimantan by speedboats.
On land, located six and a half kilometer from Banjarmasin, is the central terminal for inter-city transportation’s. Minibuses and coaches transporting passengers to town in South Kalimantan, as well as to the neighboring provinces of Central and East Kalimantan, which are connected by well constructed roads.
