Pengotan traditional village is one of unique places beside Penglipuran traditional village. It has plenty of uniqueness different from Penglipuran either in terms of housing resettlement pattern or traditional customs and social values.
The building apparently looks very different from its typical features of warmth- conscious highland house where the position of the kitchen and its dwelling house are constructed in the same roof. The amterial of the buildings are mostly bamboo.
The building has a variety of typical artistic values as well, such as various kinds of Baris dance like Baris Jangkang, Baris Buntal, Baris Blongsing, Baris Dapdap, Baris Perancak, are usually staged on a certain temple festival at Pura Penataran, and Baris Babwang is performed at midnight. Perang Papah is also a fascinating attraction where the performers hit each other by using the stem of banana leaf. It is performed at pedungan Temple on the fulmoon of Sasih Keenam (around December).
The attractive event is marriage festival attended by a group of couple that is held at pura Kedasa ON Balinese calendar (around April- October).
The burial ritual is also much different. After ritualizing in traditional custom, the corpse is carried by two people to the graveyard while running. On arriving at the graveyard while running. On arriving at the graveyard, the cover is unveiled, so that the corpse realy becomes naked then it is rolled down into the grave hole which has been prepared. Afterwards, it is covered face up down ward over looking the northwestwards.
By taking its uniqueness into account, this village is really worth visiting.
