This unique traditional village is located at the administrative village of Kubu about 5 kms from Bangli. It is became famous caused by its tradition, natural beauty and hospitable villagers.
According to the village elders, the word “Penglipuran” is derived from the word “ Pengeling Pura” means a holy place for remembering the ancestors. It is exiated since their ancestors come from Banyunggede village in Kintamani district. As from Banyunggede to Penglipuran is quite long distance, therefore the people of Penglipuran established the same temple as the one in Banyunggede. So, it means they are still remembering their origin and ancestors.
Another opinion said “Penglipuran” is derived from the word “Penglipur” means “relaxation”. Because when the Royal period it was used for resting place. Its artistic Balinese architecture is still preserved. So, these conditions differ this village from the others.
Most of the population earn their life by farming, trading, and just few as civil servants. Their everyday lives are based on Hindu’s teachings.
This village be reached through connecting district roads of bangli and Kintamani, then turning in driveway to Penglipuran traditional village.
