 Putung is an area with fabulous view in Duda Timur village, Selat district of Karangasem Regency. It is situated about 64 km from Denpasar city or around 19 km from Amlapura city. Putung features a hilly region with thick green vegetation covered by the cool breezy atmosphere.
You can witness a spectacular view here, comprising the harmonious combination of hills, sea, forest, valleys and the terraced rice paddy fields. Also, the Nusa Penida Island can be seen from this area.
There is no authentic script of the Putung history. But, the local elders said that Putung used to be the part of Manggis village. Once, Putung infected by an epidemic disease, which killed many people. Many people believed that the disaster caused by the dereliction of the people in obeying the Manggis village customary law.
Because of the mistake, this particular area then condemned to be no longer the part of Manggis village. The relationship with the Manggis village was “cut off” (Putung). That is why the area so called ‘Putung’ up till now.
Mr. Christiano, an Italian painter was the one who played significant rule in promoting the beauty of Putung. His paintings featuring the fabulous panorama of Putung were famed world widely. Christiano married a woman from Manggis village.
Putung has been well-developed. Several accommodation and restaurants were built. The parking area is quite convenience, while a tennis court is also available.
