Therefore, the purification ceremony carried out to bring back the missing harmony aspects, by sacrificing some elements of life. The holy sacrifice (Yajna) is dedicated to Bhuta (basic element of universe). There are five Bhutas known as Panca Maha Bhuta as the main composition of the universe, i.e. ‘Pertiwi’ (solid), ‘Apah’ (liquid), ‘Teja’ (heat), ‘Bayu’ (wind), ‘akasa’(ether)
It is believed that the blast caused some broken in the elements; therefore it must be fixed by adding some things through the holy sacrifice. The extraordinary ceremony was necessary because the Oct. 12 nightclub bombings, which killed at least 185 people, shook the principles of Tri Hita Karana, the traditional Balinese Hindu belief of harmony and continuity of life. The ceremonies are meant to "bring life back to Bali and to ask for the forgiveness of God to rebalance the imbalances of the last month |
