Rafting and Bicycling: White-water rafting
down the Ayung River, below Amandari, makes for an exhilarating
half-day out spotting exotic flora and fauna close-up. Mountain
biking is another option. While Bali's roads are rarely quiet,
there are some lovely out-of-the-way tours for bikers and
nature lovers. One tour starts at the very lip of Mount Batur.
Guests are driven up there and then freewheel downhill through
villages, forest and rice fields. It's rare not to encounter
at least one village festival or temple ceremony along the
way.
Golf: Bali's three golf courses are as diverse
as the island itself.
The Bali Handara Country Club is a short drive from Amandari
and is set in an extinct volcano. Acclaimed as one of the
world's most beautiful golf courses, it was designed by Peter
Thomson and Graham Wolveridge. The championship course's 18
holes lie amid lush green mountain slopes and rainforest.
The Bali Golf and Country Club, recently recognised as one
of Asia's top five courses, is further south, immediately
adjacent to Amanusa. Designed by Robin Nelson and Rodney Wright,
the championship, 18-hole course enjoys a scenic, seaside
setting. Club facilities include a driving range, putting
and chipping greens, pro shop, restaurant, bar and swimming
pool.
The Nirwana Bali Golf Club is located in the Tabanan Regency,
on the island's west coast. Former British Open champion Greg
Norman designed this championship course. Blessed with one
of Asia's most visually arresting settings, the Nirwana Bali
Golf Club plays through rice paddies, tropical forest, gardens
and creeks.

Trekking: Amandari’s trained guides
can offer guests a variety of hiking experiences ranging from
one to four hours or more. Paths and climbs lead through hills
and rice fields and past streams. Guests may breakfast with
the birds at the Bali Bird Park, or trek the lovely Ayung
Valley and enjoy a picnic hamper at Amandari’s bale.
The morning market is also a colourful option.
Dances: Balinese dances are performed nightly
in Ubud and the nearby villages. Amandari will organise transportation
to and from the sites.
Shopping: Ubud is celebrated worldwide for
its artistry and villages well known for art and craft specialities
are close by. Batuan is popular for paintings and Celuk for
gold and silver jewellery.
Museums: Some of the best museums are located
around Ubud.
