Singaraja Today
Singaraja of the capital and chief port of the Buleleng Regency, which stretches along the whole northern coast in Bali. The Raja Panji Sakti built a palace called Singaraja, (which literally translate as "lion king" ), in 1604, and the name remains. Over the centuries the importance of the port has somewhat lessened, with the transfer of Bali’s government to Denpasar, but the original port is still the anchorage for a number of picturesque schooners that ply the local waters. The historical library, Gedong Kirtya, houses some 3,000 lontar books, Balinese manuscripts made of strips of lontar palm that contain a wealth of tradition, teaching and philosophy. This tour also includes a visit of the historic temples Pura Beji and Pura Meduwe Karang.
The largest collection of lontar palmleaf books is kept at the Gedong Kertya Library outside the city the Sasana Budaya Art Center is more central. Outwest is the tourist resort area of Lovina, with quiet blacks and beaches. This famous beach also has a complete facility for tourism. Views are dramatic from the winding coastal road. Other tourism objects you can see are Ponjok Batu Temple, Pura Beji Temple at Sangsit, Pura Meduwe Karang Temple at Kubutambahan, the beautiful Kertalangu Temple, Pura Dalem Temple at Jagaraga, and some others.
